Your TV Just Keeps Getting Better!
Here at Comcast Digital Cable we are constantly working to improve your experience. Start diving into our new features by following the directions below and you will begin experiencing the latest improvements to your Digital Cable Service.
Comprehensive Parental Controls
Parental Controls now feature expanded screens to let you quickly see which ratings are locked and unlocked. In addition to blocking programming by rating you can now block by content such as violence, adult situations, or language.
Revved up Search
You’ll notice a new on-screen keyboard that makes it fast and easy to enter your search terms. Now you can also save your favorite searches so you don’t have to enter the same thing over and over again.
Smarter DVR
Your DVR can now outsmart conflicts that are caused when two scheduled recordings overlap (by five minutes or less) and record both shows. Before, you wouldn’t be able to record a show that started at 9pm if you were recording another show that didn’t end until 9:02pm and your other tuner was occupied. Now with this upgrade, your DVR will record both - simply clipping the beginning of the second show by those two minutes to accommodate the overlap. You’ll get both shows, and won’t miss the cliffhanger of the first one! And the new Live Program Extend feature automatically offers to extend the recoding time of live events, so you never miss the end of the big game.![]()

Your FAQs
1. Why did Comcast upgrade my guide?
Comcast upgraded your guide to provide you with significant enhancements to features such as search, parental controls and DVR. We periodically perform these upgrades in order to continue to improve your cable television viewing experience.
Some of the enhancements you will notice are:
- An on-screen keyboard to more easily enter search terms
- The ability to save your searches to a convenient list, making it easier to re-run them again and again
- New Parental Controls that enable you to block TV programming both by content and by rating, making it easier than ever to manage what your family is watching
- New DVR enhancements to make outsmarting conflicting scheduled recordings a snap.
2. Will all of my set-top boxes receive this upgrade?
Yes, all Comcast set-top boxes are being upgraded over the next several weeks.
3. I am seeing “TBA” instead of actual program names in my Guide-why did this happen and what should I do?
When your On-Screen Program Guide is updated, all of the program data needs a little bit of time to reload on your set-top box. You have probably experienced this in the past, for example, after a power outage. In that example, once the power comes back it takes a while for the names of programs to reappear in the Guide.
This is normal and throughout the day you will notice program names begin to fill in. The best thing to do is just let the Guide data populate. We do NOT recommend unplugging your box, as this will simply start the Guide loading process over again. We do apologize for this inconvenience.
4. I am not seeing my Scheduled Recordings? Should I reset them?
Your Scheduled Recordings are actually linked to the Guide data. So, for example, if you have a recording scheduled for “Law & Order,” until that channel stops showing “To Be Announced” and instead shows “Law & Order” in the Guide at the appropriate night and time, your Scheduled Recording of that episode will not appear.
Once the Guide data finished loading, your Scheduled Recordings will reappear. Check your Scheduled Recordings again, after your Guide data has completely loaded, to confirm that they have reappeared.
5. My favorite show is on tonight, and my guide still says “To Be Announced” instead of the program name on that channel-how can I make sure that it records?
You can use your DVR to set up a Manual Recording. It’s a rare case that your Guide data doesn’t load in time, but if you find that you need to schedule the recording before the program information reappears:
- Press Menu on your remote once and select DVR on the Quick Menu.
- Select Set a Recording, then Create a Manual Recording.
- Choose the time and channel that you would like to record, then select Confirm.
6. I don’t see any of my saved DVR Recordings under “My Recordings.” How do I get them back? Your DVR recordings should reappear as soon as the Guide starts repopulating itself with program information. If this doesn’t happen or if it seems to take an exceedingly long time, you can try “forcing” your Guide data to load again by unplugging the power, waiting a few seconds and plugging it back in. However, we suggest you only do this when you are done watching television for the day, for example, before you go to sleep, as then your set-top box will have the whole night to download data.
7. The Delete/Don't Delete box doesn't automatically pop up right at the end of a recorded program any longer - why?
Now, when you reach the end of a recording, your DVR automatically pauses the recording for 15 seconds. Based on customer feedback, this enhancement now offers you the opportunity to rewind from the end of a DVR recording -- useful, for example, if you want to go back and watch the last scene of the program again.
If you do nothing, the box that asks you if you wish to "Delete" or "Don't Delete" your recording will appear in 15 seconds. Alternately, press the Stop or Exit buttons on your remote to "un-pause" and proceed to the "Delete/Don't Delete" screen.
