The Comcast Reading Network

The following programs were funded through The Comcast Reading Network in 2005:

Albuquerque Public Schools Foundation, Albuquerque, NM - $20,000

The Albuquerque Public Schools Foundation stresses early childhood literacy and learning beyond the classroom in areas such as writing, phonics, and comprehension. The 2nd Grade Academy, a summer program, gives students a chance to improve their grade level of literacy and engages students in fun and educational activities. In the first year, the program assisted 72 students; enrollment for the 2005 program was 216.

Friends of the Nashville Public Library, Nashville, TN - $25,000

The summer reading program is held at all 21 branches of the Nashville Public Library and serves more than 13,000 children each summer. The program keeps children active in reading over the summer months when reading skills typically decline. As children reach their goal, they are recognized for their achievement and participate at a celebration at the end of the summer.

The Literacy Partnership of Southeast Michigan seeks to raise literacy awareness and expand literacy instruction throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
