The following programs were funded through The Comcast Reading Network in 2004:
Friends of Dallas Public Library, Dallas, TX - $15,000
Mayor Laura Miller’s Summer Reading Program encourages children to continue reading over the summer. Generated additional awareness of the program and Comcast support by airing a PSA that featured the Mayor.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Trenton - Governor's Book Club, NJ - $20,000
Supports the Governor’s Reading Club, an initiative to inspire children in kindergarten through third grade to read outside of the classroom. The grant enabled over 57,000 children across New Jersey access to books and reading mentors after school.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit, Detroit, MI - $20,000
The Lunch Buddies reading program trains afternoon reading tutors for elementary school aged children. More than 25 local Comcast employees volunteer with the program, which enhances the local Comcast system’s commitment to improve early childhood education.
Volunteer Florida Foundation, Tallahassee, FL - $35,000
Governor Jeb Bush’s Family Literacy Initiative Parent and Child Together Time (PACT), enables the bilingual program to provide books and activity guides for 850 families during school vacation periods when literacy rates drop among school age children.
Self Enhancement, Inc. Portland, OR - $25,000
The Rewards of Reading Mentoring Program serves over 1,700 students and families in Northeast Portland by providing a reading mentor program and hosting a family reading hour.
