Tru2way™ Technology

Tru2way™ technology is the new name for the “OpenCable Applications Platform” (OCAP) that’s being built into televisions, set-top boxes and other electronic devices to give consumers exciting new ways to enjoy television anywhere, anytime they want.

With tru2way technology, cable companies, content developers, network programmers and consumer electronics companies can quickly and easily deliver the interactive services consumers want. Because of tru2way technology’s open standards, developers only have to write one version of an application, and it will work on almost every cable system in the United States as well as in other countries.

Comcast is working with leading members of the consumer electronics industry including Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Intel, TiVo, Motorola, Cisco and Microsoft and others to make the tru2way solution a reality.

Through our relationship with Panasonic, we’re introducing the industry’s first portable DVR player powered by tru2way technology that will let consumers watch their favorite recorded programs anytime and anywhere – in the home, at the beach or on a road trip with their families. The portable DVR player fits into a docking station in the home that functions as a set-top box, providing complete access to customers’ digital cable services, including video on demand and interactive program guides.

Comcast also has worked with Panasonic to develop a “plug and play,” interactive-digital-cable-ready TV set, with tru2way technology inside. Consumers simply bring the set home from the store and plug it in to begin receiving all available interactive cable services – no set-top box is needed because it’s built into the TV. Customers also will only need one remote to be able to watch their favorite programs with Comcast’s HD and On Demand services.
